Two ways to trail
You choose one trailing style for a profile. Both are percentages, so they work the same way for a ₹100 share and a ₹2,000 one.
- Trail by distance %: the stoploss stays a fixed percentage below the best price the trade has reached since trailing started.
- Dynamic move %: the stoploss moves up by a percentage of each favourable move in the price (the movement it captures, up to 100%).
When it starts trailing
How it trails and when it starts are separate choices. The trailing style sets how; this sets when:
- Immediately at entry
- After Target 1 is hit
- After Target 2 is hit
- After profit reaches X%
Waiting until a target or a profit percentage gives a trade room to move before the stoploss starts to follow it.
How it works with your other rules
Breakeven guard, trailing, the profit giveback guard and the locks after each target can only move a stoploss closer to the price. None of them can move it further away. When several apply, the tightest level wins.
Every rule mirrors itself for a short position: the stoploss sits above the price and moves down.
What it cannot do
A trailing stoploss decides when an exit is sent, not the price it fills at. In a fast or gapping market, during a halt, or if software, networks, brokers or exchanges fail, the exit can fill at a worse price, late, or not at all. Strategy Baskets are managed as one basket, so per-trade rules such as trailing do not apply to basket legs.
